Took a vacation at south Florida late Jan. Went to Everglades national park, key west, Miami. Finally got a chance to use my camera after a long rest.

Tulip Festival
Visited my parents during the Mother's day weekend. The tulip festival also started from the weekend. Certainly I wouldn't miss the opportunity for some pictures. The weather was still kinda chilly in Ottawa though.

天使之城
Spent Xmas holiday visiting my sister in southern California, just outside of Los Angeles. Weather there was definitely milder than New England. Pictures from Griffin Park. Turns out that the "Hollywood" sign is not really in Hollywood, but in Griffin Park.

Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony
Last night I went to the annual holiday lighting event at Faneuil Hall market place. Previously I have taken some holiday decor pictures a few times but never right at the ceremony. Although it is already in late Nov, the weather in Boston is still presently enough. Still I am surprised to see such a big crowd in the market place. Got there at least half hour before the lighting schedule and I still had to squeeze in for a okay spot for pictures. It was a fun event and I am glad I went.

Kayaking at Belle Isle Marsh
I joined a photo club activity at Belle Isle Marsh Reservation this weekend. Great experience and quite a bit exercise too, since it was quite windy. I heard there is bird watching opportunity so brought a 70-200mm with me, also my panasonic TZ5. I have never done kayak before but have experience with canoe and sail boat. Took a few minutes to get myself comfortable and then off I go.

sunset and moonrise
Yesterday was lunar calendar August, 15th(the mid-autumn festival). The moon was supposed to be the fullest. Unfortunately it was raining and cloudy all day. Today was another story, it was sunny in the afternoon and the temp was quite present. I walked to the Cambridge side late afternoon to take some moon rise pictures. Did some research online in advance regarding the moonrise time and the best spot to see the moon in this time of the year. Arrived at the Harvard bridge/memorial drive around 6:15pm. The timing was perfect as the moon was just coming out. Big and yellowish.

Worldwide photo walk-July18,2009
I participates the 2nd annual worldwide photo walk in my town. Our walk started inside the historic Boston Public Garden, the first botanical garden in the United States. We met at the "Make way for the ducklings" and then headed out to the state house to meet and photograph the civil war re-enactors of the 54th Massachusetts Glory Brigade( on 146th anniversary of their assault on Fort Wagner near Charleston, SC). I also strolled over the Boston common and public garden, the signature suspension bridge, the Swan Boats in the Lagoon, met Romeo and Juliet (the lagoon’s famous resident swan couple) and happy to see that Juliet is hatching 4 eggs.

Wilson boston open
A friend told me about the Wilson Boston Open Badminton tournament at MIT this passing weekend. I thought this would be a good opportunity to practice indoor sports photography. Went there with my 17-40mm, and 100mm f2.8. The good things is I was able to move quite freely to look for good shooting spot. However, still wish I have a faster lens with big aperture. I set the shutter priority to 1/125. Iso 800, sill underexposed, although relatively sharp. I got some close up head shots with the 100mm but a lot of them are not sharp enough. The 17-40mm gave some nice wide angle pictures. wish i had brought 50mm f1.8, but I don't know whether it will be fast enough.

五月花
Love my new DC. It is so convenient to just carry in my pocket to anywhere I go. Lately I got a habit to stop by the public garden before go grocery shopping nearby. After a grayish morning, this afternoon is perfect, warm breezy, blue sky... So I went there again. The tulip flowers are fully bloomed. The number of people visiting the garden are also booming.
